Portals

Despite science and innovation being the platform for Australia's future economic strategy, Australia is one of many industrialized nations facing difficulties in maintaining an adequate supply of individuals interested in careers in Science and Technology. In this edition we feature alumni from a span of almost four decades who have pursued careers in this field, from a class of 2016 member who is just beginning her studies to an expert with 25 years experience in cancer research.

Building a culture of creative learning with STEAM

For Victorian schools, STEM is a fundamental part of the curriculum. STEM brings Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics together to cover a wide range of knowledge and skills, which are increasingly in demand in a knowledge-based economy and a rapidly changing world.

STEM develops cross-curricular capabilities such as ethical, critical and creative thinking. Emmanuel College has a strong STEM focus but adds to the concept by bringing Art into the mix to create STEAM.

Alumni Dr Cindy Baulch-Brown (Class of 1990) has been a leader in STEAM and digital technologies at Emmanuel. We recently had a conversation with Cindy, along with her colleagues Simone Rolfe and Ben McKenzie.
