For all that knew Sr Luke, she needs no introduction. A little lady who stood up to authority, a champion for justice whose support was given to all with a warmth and hospitality that made you instantly feel like old friends.

Born and raised in Warrnambool, Sr Luke attended St Ann’s College in the early 1950s. In 1957 she began teacher training before entering the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy at Ballarat East. There, she completed her training and went on to teach at schools in Ballarat, Robinvale, Wycheproof and Donald. She then went on to deliver literacy programs at Centacare Ballarat.

Many will remember her for her determined journey’s through the South West to visit friends and family on her Vespa. Sr Gerardine Cooney highlighted “Her happiness was complete when she passed her motorbike licence and was free to whizz along the highway for several hours to the sea at Warrnambool, hail, rain or shine, singing hymns all the way.”
