2021 started on a comparative high, seeing many of our annual school and alumni events resume with only some restrictions.

A particular highlight was the CBC Catch-Up which saw a large group of CBC boys come together despite the howling rain outdoors (find photos and info here). The Emmanuel Alumni Network was also able to show their support of Emmanuel College’s football team, who dominated against their Warrnambool & Brauer College counterparts, with a sausage sizzle at the twilight match. We look to run this again next year, and hope to see you there.

More recent events however, have sadly fallen prey to Victoria’s recent series of lockdowns. St Ann’s Day and our long awaited grand event, the Evening of Inspiration, were postponed. We are currently exploring how both these events can be restaged. Read about the amazing endeavours of all our Inspiring Alumni and Young Alumni Achievers in our Evening of Inpiration feature here.

With all the uncertainty of border closures, snap lockdowns and general restrictions, class reunions have been particularly challenging to launch. My thanks go to Natasha Wilkinson (Class of 1991), Bec McGrath (Class of 2001) and Liana Condon (Class of 2011) for their early interest in creating an event.

Earlier in the year, Emmanuel had the privilege of having past students join us and share some of their experiences and talents with our students. Ruby Farley-Steere, Dana Fary of the Class of 2015 (fashion designers who have just launched their own label) and Matt Said of the Class of 2011 (geologist), addressed students in class; Briana Surkitt (Class of 2018), Isobel Jones (Class of 2016), Kieran Timms (Class of 2012), Erin Read nee Fitzgibbon (Class of 2010), Fergus Torpy (Class of 2008) and Paige Kennedy (Class of 2010) gave Year 12s an insight into life after school at Retreat; and between preparing for his university exams, Class of 2020’s Harrison Carroll-Beard has been helping VCE students with their Japanese speaking skills.

We are pleased to present this edition of the Emmanuel College Connection and as always encourage you to stay in touch.

Enjoy,
