Portals

Work continues cataloging and preserving the treasures that help us to remember the people, the places and the events of our 150 plus years of history at the College. Work is currently focused on the cataloguing of one of the strongest documenters of our history – the College Yearbooks, and recording of the artefacts currently on display so that a process can be put in place to care for these items.

Since the article in the previous College Connection we have attracted some beautiful heritage donations.

Some of the items that we were particularly excited to receive were:

A CBC sports singlet

This item was donated by CBC Class of 1990’s Justin Houlihan, and while the garment has been well used in it’s lifetime, we were pleased to receive it as we didn’t previously have one among our uniform collection. Justin described that these were loaned by students to represent the school in most sporting competitions, and coyly admits that he may have forgotten to return it following it’s last use.

Daughter of alumni Mary Mackay (Class of 1930), Gerardine Boland, shared a copy of this incredibly early class photo not previously on file. Her mother Mary appears in the centre of the back row.

We are unsure at this point what grade the class is, but based on the years we have recorded for Mary’s attendance, we can date the photo between 1925 and 1928. Perhaps you recognise other class members that could help us date the photo?

CBC tie and hat crest

Following our call out in the last edition of the College Connection, we got one step closer to uncovering a CBC Cap, in a donation from Brian Pye of the Class of 1970 – the crest from the front of the cap! Brian has kindly donated the crest, that is complete with the thread that would have once held it to his cap, along with his school tie. The CBC school tie is another exciting addition to our heritage collection, as we have previously only had examples of the St Ann’s tie, the amalgamation tie, and today’s Emmanuel College tie.

Do you have?

Through the cataloguing of our yearbooks we have discovered that the annuals for the years 2005 and 2006 are particularly rare.

If anyone has a copy of these, that they no longer want to hold onto, please consider donating it to the EC History Centre.
