Liana Mahoney

Liana Mahoney is a proud Emmanuel Alumni having completed her secondary education at Emmanuel College and graduating Year 12 in 2011, where she was school Vice-Captain.

After Graduating High School in 2011, Liana was accepted into an Arts/Law Degree at Deakin University. In May 2014 she was offered employment at Dwyer Robinson (now Dwyer Legal). She juggled full time employment with full time study for most of her degree so that she could gain practical experience and understand firsthand what being a lawyer was like. She graduated University with a double degree of Arts/Law and a major in Criminology. Following this she then completed post-graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law.

In December 2017, she was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria as an Australian Lawyer. “An achievement I have been proud of to date. Being raised by a single mother, I had inherent qualities of grit and determination. I have always recognised my privilege and had a huge appreciation of the sacrifices my mum had to make to ensure I was able to experience the best education”.

On 1 July 2024, Liana was welcomed to the Partnership by co-directors and business Partners Luke Taylor and Alex McCulloch. She is the first female Partner at Taits (the firm has been well-established for over 150 years) and is head of our Commercial/Property Law Department at Taits and also leads a strong team of Lawyers and Clerks in our Estate Planning Department.

“This is part of the many reasons why I was glad to be approached by Emmanuel to join the board of Directors of the Emmanuel Foundation. I believe that the Boards ethos completely aligns with my own and the work that the Board have completed thus far (under direction of Peter Morgan) has been astounding, something to be truly proud of and something that I would be lucky to assist in continuing”.

“Since graduating, I have been welcomed back to Emmanuel by predominately talking to VCE students on a yearly basis. I have had strong ties with Emmanuel ever since. I have also welcomed Emmanuel students to Taits Legal and conducted information sessions to assist with career direction and vocation, and to hopefully inspire and offer general advice to students taking on the stressful all-consuming VCE exams”.
