30 April

Emmanuel College was delighted to support and be a part of a reunion that united the CBC boys 60 years on from their school days!

The event was brilliantly led by alumni Kevin O’Donnell, Brian Short, Yani Marris, Laurie Gleeson, Mick Crowe and Laurie Foley, who for about 18 months diligently searched high and low for all the boys that sat beside them in the classrooms at Canterbury Road. Their hard work paid off as they not only drew classmates from across the country, but as far away as the UK! Perhaps even more impressive, was that the event was attended by two of their teachers – Br Gibbons and Br Clery.

The reunion began at the College with Mass in the Rice Campus Chapel. Kindly celebrated by alumni, Fr Patrick Mugavin (Class of 1967), this was an incredibly special way to come together to begin the day. Campus tours followed, where the boys enjoyed seeing how much the school had changed, while being reminded of plenty of tales from the classroom. The reconnection and reminiscing continued over lunch, and for many hours into the late afternoon.

It was wonderful to watch on as friendships rekindled over shared memories, and the gratitude the boys showed for the work of their teachers.
