Coming from a French background, I have close family and friends in France. It is important to me to be able to communicate with them comfortably. It’s a language I have a close connection to and although it can be challenging studying a language through distance education, I’ve had a lot of encouragement and support from teachers and family.
Mrs Joseph has been wonderful. She put a lot of thought into finding a suitable way for me to pursue French. She organised my study through the Victorian School of Languages, set me up and has regularly touched base with me to make sure everything was going OK.
Mrs Smith and Mrs Edge have only been too happy to give me extra guidance. Mrs Sinnott and the LRC staff have been great in allowing me to use the interview room and making sure everything was ready for the telephone interviews.
There is a Czech proverb that says, “Learn a new language and get a new soul.” Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things. It adds an extra window from which you can look at the world.
Studies show that learning another language can boost brain functioning, improve memory, and enhance the ability to multitask. These are skills that help in your daily life and in other academic areas. Being multilingual can help open career doors and explore opportunities both in Australia and overseas.
I have a keen interest in Japan. I love learning Japanese too and hope to go back there one day. I enjoy keeping active and find sport gives my life a bit of balance. I love snow and skiing!
Students at Emmanuel are fortunate to be given the chance to have a taste of a variety of subjects and electives. We can explore and develop what we like and what we are good at whether that is in sport, music, art, science, agriculture, food, woodwork, textiles, IT or languages (just to name a few). The teachers are encouraging and support you every step of the way.
