Hello Alums!

There is a lot to be proud of as a past student of Emmanuel, St Ann’s and CBC. The number of great stories of students past and present, over a huge diversity of fields, is overwhelming. We enjoy learning of each and every one, and with each edition of the Emmanuel College Connection we aim to share as many of these with you as possible. You can help us celebrate and support your fellow alumni by letting us know what you or your classmates are doing - get in touch!

We are also fortunate to have the increasing involvement of our alumni in a number of our school day activities. Guardian journalist and member of the Class of 1991, Brigid Delaney, gave an incredibly rousing presentation at our first whole school assembly for 2019. Brigid's work leading the Mercy Campaign painted a very real picture for our school community of how our actions, big or small, can aspire and inspire.

A unique practical opportunity arose for our senior media students when we were preparing for this year’s CBC Catch-Up. Students put theory into practice when they recorded a sample of the poetic talents of Mr Brian Kavanagh (CBC 1950) to celebrate the coming of both the CBC alumni event and the Warrnambool Racing Carnival. See the results at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-WNr8EeyNg&t=1s.

We were also pleased to welcome back Br Frank O'Shea (CBC 1971) who visited many Emmanuel College classes during his recent stay in Australia and demonstrated a very contrasting picture of school and life at the Ruben Centre in Nairobi, to those of an Emmanuel College student. Learn more about Frank's work by visiting the website: www.rubencentre.org.

I am pleased to report that the College is supporting five class reunions this year! It is always a pleasure working with the committees of alumni dedicated to bringing as many of their classmates together as possible to remember their glory days and celebrate all that has occurred in between. They give up their time to ensure dates, a venue, and all the atmosphere add-ons combine to foster the joy of being together. Ensure you don’t miss out - dates can be found here Alumni events.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the collective input of Kevin Chiller (CBC 1967), Geraldine Melican nee Gleeson (St Ann’s 1976), Tony Herbert (CBC 1984), Shannon Rea nee Monk (St Ann’s/Emmanuel 1993), Ben Walsh (Emmanuel 2005) and Regina Cassidy nee Kenna (Emmanuel 2010). Together they are a wonderful guide on how we continue to develop our alumni program into the future for all to take part in to reconnect and celebrate.

Enjoy!
