Our annual Catch-Up attracted 100 boys of all generations of CBC back to Emmanuel College to reconnect with old friends, and remember the tales of their school days.

This year we were inspired by the works of our guest speaker, Br Frank O’Shea (Class of 1971) who joined us via video conference all the way from the Ruben Centre in Kenya. Frank shared stories of his life and work in Kenya, his short-lived retirement, his early work in places like Tonga and South Sudan, a tussle with a giraffe, and how he survived anthrax. A rare circumstance for many of the boys was also the opportunity to catch-up with their past teachers, Br Gibbons and Br Clery. Both in their 90’s, these special guests joined us at the Catch-Up, where both had queues of their past students all wanting to pay them tribute. Br Gibbon’s is certainly remembered by his students for fostering a great curiosity in Chemistry and Physics, and Br Clery for his ability to tell a story, and his skill with both a football and a cricket bat.

Thanks to all who attended and made the event as special as it was. For those that missed the CBC Catch-Up this year, mark Monday 29th April in your calendar, and save the date for next year.
